The name of this area comes from the Slavic language and means "round".

In the 13th century the name of this place was "Chrungil", as well as the lake Grundlsee, which at that time may have belonged to the same area.

The village is built on an ancient cemetery. So if somebody builds a house there, it might easily happen, that while carving the cellar you might find bone remains.
